Moto-360-Android-Wear

A questionable report from China today claims that Motorola has swapped the upcoming Moto 360’s svelte stainless steel body for a cheaper plastic one that makes the device much thicker. No reason is given for the change, which seems highly unlikely at this point given the excitement from consumers for a metal smartwatch.

HP is probably the last company you’d expect to make a genuinely good-looking smartwatch, but it appears to have done that with a little help from Gilt and fashion designed Michael Bastian. The company’s upcoming wearable, which it teased for the first time today, will deliver a custom operating system that’s compatible with both Android and iOS.

The upcoming Moto 360 is expected to get a built-in ambient light sensor, but neither the LG G Watch or the Samsung Gear Live have one. That means that they cannot control their own brightness automatically depending on the environment — but there is a third-party app that can help.

The Team Win Recovery Project custom recovery now provides official support for the first Android Wear smartwatches from Samsung and LG. The release gives Gear Live and G Watch users the ability to flash custom ROMs and other tweaks, make complete ROM backups, and more.

Google has just released and uploaded the official kernel files for both Samsung’s Gear Live (Sprat) and LG’s G Watch (Dory) to its Android Source Platform. For many of us, they’re not much use, but for developers they’re a godsend as they now have the tools to produce some awesome new features.
