Over the past month or so, I’ve been asking friends and colleagues whether they’ll be choosing the HTC One M8 or the Samsung Galaxy S5 when it’s time to upgrade their smartphone. A number of the responses have surprised me. Rather than picking the latter — which I assumed most would — several told me they would be waiting for the LG G3 instead.

That wait will end on May 27, when LG will announce its new flagship at events held simultaneously in six cities around the world.

Earlier today, Google updated its Galaxy S4 GPE listing on the Play Store with a picture of the Galaxy S5, thus suggesting that a Google Play Edition of Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone is on the way. Unfortunately, all the other information on the listing page remains identical to that of the S4, but seeing as the search engine giant has already made the first move, the full listing should be updated shortly.

Are you among the unlucky few whose brand new Galaxy S5 camera is giving a “Warning: Camera failed” error every time you try to launch it? Well, here is some more bad news for you. The issue is not related to software but the hardware and the only way to fix it is to take the phone to your nearest Samsung or carrier maintained shops and get a replacement phone instead.

Despite criticisms about its cheap plastic form factor and slow TouchWiz operating system, the Galaxy S5 has become Samsung’s fastest-selling smartphone to date. The device has been so successful that during its launch weekend earlier this month, it sold more units than the iPhone 5s.
