samsung-galaxy-k-invitation

A Samsung press event scheduled for April 29 could deliver the first official unveiling of the new Galaxy S5 Zoom. The South Korean company’s invite, which features the tagline “Kapture the Moment,” suggests a photography-focused event just weeks after a new Galaxy Zoom smartphone was pictured out in the wild.

Samsung launched its flagship smartphone of 2014, the Galaxy S5, in a whopping 125 countries on Friday, and for many customers who were lucky enough to get their hands on one, it was their first IP67 certified waterproof smartphone — so it’s only natural that they were eager to get it home and submerge the handset in water to put it through its paces.

Once they’ve played around with their new phone for an hour or two, owners will then probably want to personalize it as best as they can; this usually comes in the form of purchasing skins, decals or even replacement housing. That’s where this post comes into play. Since Friday, we have seen a shedload of third-party backplates designed exclusively for the Galaxy S5 appear on eBay. However, we strongly recommend you refrain from buying one.

Here’s why.

The HTC One M8’s gorgeous aluminum unibody is one of “the top five reasons” why it is better than the Samsung Galaxy S5, according to leaked HTC training material that’s reportedly being distributed to sales representatives in the United States.

The document also refers to the M8’s incredible BoomSound speakers, its nifty touch gestures that are supposed to make it better for one-handed use, and its new Duo Camera.

Galaxy-S5-hammer

No one likes to see a brand new smartphone being smashed to pieces unnecessarily, so this torture test video featuring a Galaxy S5 that fights back is the most enjoyable one you’ll find on YouTube. It looks like the handset is going to go down easily after several whacks with a large hammer — but it only takes one blow to the battery to send its abuser running in the opposite direction.

One of the best things about the Galaxy S5 is that you can get it wet. Not just a little bit wet, but completely soaking wet. It’s IP67 certified, which means you can literally take it swimming (up to 1 meter deep) or watch YouTube videos in the bath and it’s going to be just fine.

And just in case you were skeptical of Samsung’s claims, check out the video below, which puts the Galaxy S5’s waterproof form factor to the test in a swimming pool — and in a washing machine.
