Google is now selling Google Glass to residents of the United States for the next 24 hours.

The device costs $1,500 (plus tax) and comes bundled with a free sunshade lenses or a prescription lens frame. Google says the number of units available is limited, so you’ll need to act fast to secure yours.

Samsung’s fresh patent filing over at the KIPRIS (Korean Intellectual Property Rights Information Service) database has revealed a potential Google Glass competitor that the South Korean company has been long rumored to be working on.

Earlier in March, we got a look at the device’s user interface based on augmented reality. This patent here is filed as “Earphone” with a head-up display (HUD) in the front.

Google has confirmed its latest Android 4.4 KitKat update for Google Glass ahead of a 24-hour public sale later today. The update improves battery life and reliability, but temporarily disables the built-in video calling feature until it can be improved.

Google has announced that it will open the sales of its Glass wearable to just about anyone on the 15th of April as part of its limited period promotion. So you will not need an invite from an existing Glass user to get the device on that day. You will still need the $1500 though.

Researchers at the Newcastle University were given five pairs of Google Glass to test it out with people suffering from Parkinson’s disease in a medical trial so as to make their lives simpler. This will include reminders at regular intervals and some visual cues to keep the brain flowing.
