This month a handful of leaked images appeared online reputedly showcasing an upcoming Huawei-branded smartphone. Initially, the device in the pictures went unidentified, but members of the Android community quickly dubbed it as the D3 — a phablet pretty similar aesthetically to HTC’s failed 5.9-inch device, the One Max.

We now have some more information on the handset in question. Microsoft has reportedly made its Windows Phone operating system free to select handset manufacturers in an effort to gain ground on Android and iOS.

Both Xolo and Karbonn — two smartphone makers based in India — recently signed deals with Microsoft that will allow them to launch Windows Phone devices free from license fees, according to sources speaking to The Times of India.

This is the first time we’re hearing of this device, so take it with a grain of salt for the time being. It is believed that this new flagship will belong to Huawei’s popular D series of smartphones.
