Moto G

The Moto G can do a lot of things for a budget smartphone. But if there’s one thing it can’t do, it is browse data using 4G LTE. However, it seems like a separate LTE variant of the smartphone is inbound according to a new FCC listing.

Moto X owners will tell you that one of the best things about their smartphone is its Active Display feature, which offers a peek at incoming notifications from the lock screen. Unfortunately, this is exclusive to the Moto X — not even the Moto G has it — and Motorola won’t bring it to rival Android devices, for obvious reasons.

There are some nice alternatives for other Androids, though — such as AcDisplay, which is probably the closest we’ll get to Active Display on unsupported smartphones.

Motorola’s entry-level Moto G is coming to U.S. Cellular on Monday, February 10, according to an internal announcement that has been leaked online. The device will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat pre-installed, and it’ll be sold off-contract only.

Google made a surprise announcement at the end of January that confirmed it was selling Motorola to Lenovo for $2.91 billion, but the search giant seemingly forgot to tell us that it made a big investment in the Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer the following day.

Reuters reports that Google will pay Lenovo $750 million for a 5.94 percent stake in the company.

According to reports we’ve received from many loyal readers, Motorola has just started seeding the much-anticipated Android 4.4.2 firmware update to all dual-SIM variants of the Moto G currently situated in Malaysia. This upgrade is exactly the same build as the one that was rolled out to the single-SIM model two weeks ago, and brings the latest version of KitKat with Project Svelte optimizations, as well as a multitude of bug fixes and stability improvements.
