I don’t know about you, but I’ve been itching to find out more about the LG Nexus 5 since it made an accidental appearance in the video for Google’s KitKat statue unveiling earlier this week. Fortunately for us, you can always rely on the FCC to tell the world about a secret, unreleased product weeks ahead of its official unveiling.

Codenamed the “D820,” the new device will have a 5-inch display, LTE connectivity, and a speedy Snapdragon 800 processor.

Google announced Android 4.4 KitKat on Tuesday, and it has become tradition for the company to erect a new statue on the lawn of its Mountain View headquarters with every major Android release. So we weren’t surprised to see the search giant upload a video of the statue’s unveiling to YouTube.

However, we were surprised to see what looks like Google’s next-generation Nexus smartphone towards the end of the video.

According to a recent report printed by a Chinese publication, next year’s replacement for the Nexus 4 will be manufactured by LG with its designs being based around the electronic giants recently announced G2.

As I’m sure you’re already aware by now, LG announced its flagship G2 at an event in New York on Wednesday, and in addition a plethora of high-end specifications that’ll make your mouth water, it’s also packed full of software features. LG is clearly hoping to compete with the Galaxy S4 in this department, but not everybody likes that.

Some people like pure, unadulterated Android — and that’s exactly what Google Play Edition devices are for; they combine the latest hardware from third-party manufacturers with stock Android, as Google intended it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t like like the G2 will be competing with the HTC One and the Galaxy S4 in that arena.

LG has finally made the white Nexus 4 official, almost three months after it was first spotted out in the wild. The device has exactly the same specifications as the original model — there is no storage bump as previously rumored — but its back and sides have been given a new lick of paint.
