Google will wait until July to unvel its new Nexus 8 tablet with Android 4.5, rather than using the Google I/O event in June to make new product announcements, an inside source claims. The new tablet is expected to become Google’s main focus for Android 4.5, while the smaller Nexus 7 will apparently be killed off entirely.

Google unveiled the revamped version of its flagship 7-inch tablet, the Nexus 7, back in June, and a month later the device was available from the Play Store for $229. However, if you haven’t had the opportunity to pick one up before now, it may be of interest to you to know that for one day only the popular U.S. retailer, Woot, is offering $60 and $70 reductions on factory reconditioned Nexus 7 slates.

Google released the original model of its flagship 7-inch tablet, the Nexus 7, back in June, 2012, and a month later the device was available to purchase from the Play Store with a $350 price tag. However, if you didn’t have the opportunity to pick one up at the time, it may be of interest to you to know that you can currently grab the 7-inch slate for just $149 from the popular independent retailer, Woot! That’s a pretty good price considering we’re talking about the top of the range 32GB variant.

Google is currently in the process of pushing out a relatively minor over-the-air maintenance update to all LTE-enabled variants of the Nexus 7 located in the United States. Sadly, this upgrade doesn’t bring any major software modifications, but it does include support for Verizon’s super-fast 4G LTE network — just pop your Verizon SIM in, add the device to your plan for an additional $10 per month and you’ll be good to go.

Google has reportedly dropped Samsung and reached a deal with HTC over the next-generation Nexus 10, according to unnamed industry sources. The current Nexus 10 hasn’t been quite as successful as its smaller sibling, the Nexus 7, but Google will surely be hoping that HTC’s design expertise can change that.
